Robot detectives, psychic cats & mecha-kaiju populate the surreal cosmos of The Martian Funeral – a genre-blending graphic novel and animated film created by Levin A. Diatschenko and published by the Territory’s own Wild North Comics.

In a fractured solar system on the brink of collapse, robot-coffins carry out the last wills of the dead, until one breaks protocol and begins hunting the enemies of its deceased master. Meanwhile on Earth, cities crumble as giant mecha-kaiju rise from the oceans, and humanity cheers them on like it’s a death sport.

The Martian Funeral is a surreal, symbolic, and sci-fi epic from acclaimed NT artist and writer Levin A. Diatschenko, blending myth, cosmic war, and existential dread. This graphic novel is adapted from Levin’s animated film and is being developed alongside a multi-platform project that includes an exhibition, artist workshops, and a feature-length animation.

About the artist

LEVIN A. DIATSCHENKO is a prolific novelist, playwright, animator, and graphic storyteller based in Darwin, Australia. A creative descendant of William Burroughs, Jorge Luis Borges, Philip K. Dick and mixed martial arts. His work traverses dreams, mysticism, philosophy, and the surreal violence of existence.

Guided by Raja Yoga meditation and lucid dreaming, Levin’s stories occupy the liminal space between the mystical and the absurd, where the cosmic collides with the personal. His novels include The Man Who Never Sleeps, The Rooftop Sutras, Meta-Detective, My Soul CriedThe Spaceman, and The New Death - each a strange, poetic dive into alternate dimensions of mind and reality.

His theatre works include Darwin Vs. Matilda, Jehovah’s One-Table Restaurant, The Swagman’s Ghost, and The Adventures of Burat the Brave—blend satire and symbolism. As a filmmaker and animator, Levin has created cult-favourite features such as The Undying Swan, The Kneeling Devil, and his most ambitious project yet, The Martian Funeral.

His graphic novels Heavengrad and The Martian Funeral continue this mythic, mind-bending journey—expanding his unique universe into visual narrative form, proudly published by WILD NORTH COMICS
